Shinto Ryu Iaijutsu / Batto
Iaijutsu (sometimes also called Batto) is the art of drawing the sword and simultaneouslu cutting down an opponent. The modern form of this art is called Iaido and is a solo and largely meditative practice. Iaijutsu is practised with a partner to ensure timing, distance and target are relevant to actual combat conditions.
The Iaijutsu in the Shinto Muso Ryu is integrated into the kenjutsu component above and that of the Shinto Muso Ryu Jojutsu / Jodo system. As such it is not usually taught as a separate art however Nishioka Sensei has provided separate instruction in this aspect of Kenjutsu because of his concerns regards the negative impact of a diminution in the capacity of the swordsman (Uchidachi) throughout the martial arts world.
Gradings are generally not available in this art. Classes are available to adults only.
